stuff
just finished the fifth harry potter book. i have been obsessed with them for about a month now, and i read all five, one after the other, and just pre-ordered the sixth one, which will be released in june or july. i never wanted to read them, but my boss insisted that they are fabulous, and she was right. anyway, i have been reading just about every minute that i am not at work, so no blogging. not that i ever do it regularly anyway.
am empathizing with bill - i have to start studying for the lsw exam soon. i have decided that i definitely don't want to stay at this job for more than 18 months or 2 years, so I want to start racking up licenses and certifications. i already have 7 months of supervision, and i need 18 for the lcsw, so i have 11 more to go, and then i am going to take the lcsw test and start looking for another job. it's not that i hate this one - it's just that i have been feeling very angry about certain aspects of it and the agency lately. for example, there are no strict professional lines drawn between staff members, so i end up having to listen to people with BA's in english tell me how to work with clients - and they think that this is ok because the state of illinois and my agency will let anyone practice and call themselves a social worker. it drives me absolutely mad! i have also learned that i want to be an administrator. i don't really like clinical work afterall. i want to design and run programs, create agency policies, and manage people and money. aside from taking the lsw exam, i am thinking about getting a cadc (ccdc in ohio) - not because i want to do drug counseling (i hate working with addicts, and drug counselors are generally pretty wierd), but because i want it on my resume. i recently learned that it helps for getting admin jobs in chicago, even if it is unrelated to the services that agency provides. and that makes sense - there are a lot of addicts out there, and every agency serves them in some capacity, so it's important to learn about it, even if you don't want to work directly with clients.
what else? oh i don't know. there are things - i just don't feel like writing about them. more later.

We are in the same boat, girl...I'm taking this job now as an opportunity do the same thing: rack up certifications and think about what I want to do next. Wednesday I start training to become a certified Medicare Counselor. I was signed up to become an Advance Care Planning Facilitator, too, but had to cancel it because it's when we're closing on our houses. I'm trying to find every possible opportunity to further bone up the interview. I am keeping my job through November (when my current grant ends) or later (if additional funding is located, but I'm not staying more than 1.5 years)...but, ultimately, I want a government job (Franklin Co. Office on Aging or COAAA?)...I need to work with social workers (again, I feel you!!)...it'll be interesting to see where we both are this time next year?!!
